• Client had been stalled in the migration to a new corporate backup platform for several months due to a lack of internal resources and the price of consulting services as quoted by another vendor.

• RTP provided a Senior Legato Engineer to complete the design and implement the solution at approximately 30% savings as compared with another vendor's consultant.

• The migration was successful and the client realized a significant cost savings with an on-time delivery of the platform.

•  In order to meet competitive pressures in the international financial industry, client needed to reduce IT Infrastructure costs.

• A server consolidation and virtualization project was implemented to consolidate approximately 8,000 servers worldwide to three primary data centers.

• RTP provided a Senior Project Manager to manage the project along with implementation specialists

• The RTP Project Manager was responsible for managing all aspects of this worldwide project from the NY office.

• The IT inventory was in a state of chaos

Solution Approach

• A RTP Consultant was contracted to work in partnership with the Provisioning Manager to develop processes to restore order to the procurement and inventory process.

• Our consultant took physical inventory of all servers and reconciled it with the master inventory sheet.

• The consultant established a tracking process to monitor eProcurement requests, as well as a communication process to confirm orders and shipping information with vendors.

• A Sharepoint site which includes available inventory, pricing, ETA of equipment, etc. was created.  All stakeholders now have access to this information.

Results

• Business units get a more accurate timeframe for the deployment of their projects.

• Missed project dates have significantly decreased.

Business Issue

• Client was out of office and data center space and needed to move approximately 120 servers, two SANS, and 500 seats, including 40 to 50 Executive offices.

Solution Approach

• The client engaged a RTP Project Manager, who had managed the build and implementation of over 15 large data centers,  to plan and oversee the project.

• Our Project Manager utilized an internal customer Methodology, based upon PMI Institute.

• The Project Manager acted as advisor to senior management, and the primary interface between the IT organization and other departments, vendors and suppliers.  The PM was responsible for coordination of all facets of the move.

• Project was completed on-time without any major problems.

• RTP provided a storage specialist to determine requirements, design the solution, and implement a NetApp FAS3040 cluster to centralize storage while consolidating servers.

• A RTP storage architect reviewed customer performance metrics and designed a solution to support the growing business needs. Customer purchased NetApp FAS6040 cluster which RTP’s team of storage specialists implemented and now provide ongoing support.

• Project was completed on schedule and significantly under budget.

• RTP provided a team of storage engineers to provide 7x24 management of a multi-petabyte storage environment.
